Etienne Cortez's new book examines the importance of geometry in early twentieth-century Russian art, from the early influence, via Ouspensky, of Gurdjieff and the mathematician-mystics on Kasimir Malevich, the doyen of Suprematism, to the parallels with De Stijl and Constructivist design. Cortez makes special reference to the political and social development of the Russian avant-garde alongside the conception and birth of a new Suprematist grammar within the language-world of art.
