The Difference Between Soup and Whisky

Essentially, both are warming liquids, liquids we swallow to warm us up and therefore make us feel better. But there are subtle differences: soup requires effort to make it into a warm substance, whereas whisky seems to cause warmth by its own effort. So it would seem that whisky would be better for those days when you are physically tired. But this is not always the case. Warmth is a subtle thing. Why, for example, is it better to drink soup whilst feeding the ducks in the park and whisky whilst feeding the pigeons in the town square? Is the difference a difference between the need for physical warmth and the need for emotional warmth. On this warm Wednesday lunchtime she is drinking whisky.

  1. I like the way you write and what you write. It makes me feel uneasy, but in a good way, if that makes sense.
